Sunday Sounds: 5 New Musicians To Watch
I spend most Sundays relaxing to BBC DJ Annie Mac's Sunday night show, The Musical Hot Water Bottle, on Radio 1 online. Its easy vibes are perfect for late Sunday nights and early Monday mornings.
In the spirit of musical explorations, I thought I'd share a couple of songs. None of these are new, really, but they are relentlessly wonderful.
1. "Everything To Me" - Lips
Lovely and kind of obscure. Reminds me of the 90s, for some reason. Maybe the album art. LIPS recently released an album that is kind of killer; listen here.
2. "Where Do You Go To, My Lovely" - Peter Sarstedt
Not new, but maybe new to you. This song was made famous in the Wes Anderson short "Hotel Chevalier" with Natalie Portman and Jason Schwartzman.
I've said before and I'll say it again: if this can't get you where you're going, you're going the wrong places.
3. "Cups" - Anna Kendrick (jellosea Remix)
A example to me of the beauty of Internet collaboration; the original was fairly strong, but for me, this reimagining is very nearly perfection.
4. "If U Got It" - Chris Malinchak
If you ever wondered what disco in 2013/2014 might sound like, this is it.
5. "Indecision" - Sampha
Is there a word for someone who is a specialist in melodies? Could that word possibly be Sampha? His work is gorgeous, and heartbreaking, and it's no wonder that Drake loves to collaborate with him.
I'll be adding to this little list as songs occur to me. In the meantime, enjoy and send your recs my way!
